Convention Musings Worship and Bible Study From the opening celebration service Friday, May 16th to the installation of new officers, Sunday May 18th, the 2008 Oregon District Convention was filled with songs and praise to our Triune God, tears, and laughter, hugs, and hands working on mission outreach.
Keynote speaker LWML President Jan Wendorf called on each woman of the LWML to grow in God’s grace, nurture her personal relationship with the Lord, reach out to other women, and support missions.
Proclaimer Pastor Bryan Wolfmueller, using the hymn “Dear Christians One and All, Rejoice” written by Martin Luther, reminded us of our redemption, God’s compassion by sending His son to die for us as the ransom for our sins, and the Holy Spirit to comfort us. He then concluded on a note of laughter as he read a list of the top 5 sermons never to be preached at an LWML convention: 5. The sin of Quilting 4. A cosmetics seminar….If the barn needs painting…Paint IT! 3. No Women in Heaven? Based on Revelation 8:1 When he opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven for about half an hour.) 2. 37 ways to fold a Mite box 1. It was all Eve’s fault
Reverend Matthew C. Harrison spoke of the compassion (splagchnizomai) Christ had, felt, showed, and acted on for all. Now we as children of God through our Christian compassion, and love can reach out to those of the world in need.
In his sermon during Sunday Matins Service Pastor Percy reminded us that through baptism we know the Trinity. Baptized in the name of the Father, we know God is our Father, baptized in the name of the Son, we receive all the benefits of the Son’s redeeming act. Baptized in the name of the Holy Spirit, we receive the comfort, power and presence of the Holy Spirit. |

Convention Musings
Mission Faire This servant event brought men and women together in mission: constructing witness necklaces, laminating bible stories, packaging health kits, creating greeting cards, making baptismal banners, writing letters to military personnel, tying quilts, making lap protectors and writing cards to missionaries.
With smiles, laughter and willing hands we were God’s people completing works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.
Fellowship
The Saturday evening banquet and variety show was an evening of joy and laughter. There is just no way to describe it. This is one time you just had to be there. Comments overheard the next day “my jaw and sides are so sore from laughing”. So find someone who was there and ask about it.
The HospitaliTeas were wonderful! A special thank you to the ladies of Faith, who worked so hard on this. And to the “mitey mouse” who came to call.
It was joy to see the YWR’s and Teen LWML, participating so actively; their beautiful smiling faces add so much to convention. Thank you Naomi Brown and Nikki Nelson.
An invitation was extended from
Juniper Zone to host the 2010
Oregon District Convention.
